The beginning of the match was, let’s say, not brilliant. For some time
the rivals played ‘without a goal’, but they took the very first opportunity when
Bazylevych conceded a goal – on 9 minute Oleksandr Oleynyk stormed into penalty
box from the right and sent a precise goal into the far corner. Valeriy Yaremchenko
immediately carried out substitution that resulted in defense line changes:
Ivan Ordets went on pitch and Yaroslav Oleynyk moved to the right flank. And it
was his flank lob that nearly reached the opponent’s net – alas, Ilyuk’s header
hit the crossbar. Karavaev had an even better opportunity on 25 minute when he
found himself alone some 5 meters in front of the rival’s goal after Ilyuk’s left-footed
shot and Metalurh defense mistake. The strike went above the upper goalpost!
Metalurhs were not going out of their way to win after busying Bazylevych
with a couple of simple shots in the halftime, but then converted a second ball
all of a sudden. True, not without being helped by their rivals: after rather a
harmless shot by Ivanko Bazylevych and Ordets couldn’t make out who should be
on the ball and it rolled straight into the goal. Hirnyky’s position became
unsteady but fortunately they managed to make up a deficit: Karavaev rolled out
the ball from the right flank exactly for Fomin to strike, and first team envoy
scored a cool-blooded goal.
In the second time the hosts tried hard to keep the score that was satisfying
for them while away team naturally tried to retrieve their losses. Shakhtar attacked
a lot, but there was always something missing in the finishing of attacks. Finally
on 73 minute the succeeded: Yampol took a shot on the far goalpost from the
left where Fedotov converted a precise goal.
Shakhtars didn’t stop there – Valeriy Yaremchenko’s team had developed an
appetite for winning. The thirst for the victory was overwhelming, but there were
few actual goal scoring opportunities. By the way, it was perhaps this thirst
that got in the way of converting a goal when one of the best opportunities
presented itself: on 90 minute Fomin and
Doroshenko interfered with each other’s attempt at a header from a vantage
position.
- I am not happy with the game and the result. We made too many
mistakes, - commented Valeriy
Yaremchenko after the match.
