Shakhtar won Copa del Sol

On February 2, Shakhtar played in the final match of the friendly tournament Copa del Sol. The Pitmen beat the Polish side Widzew 2-1.

4 minutes. Shakhtar took a corner-kick on the left flank. Taison beat the opponent near the byline, darted into the penalty area and delivered a cross. Stepanenko held off the challenge by the opposing player, thus allowing Adriano to take a shot from 10 metres. The ball hit the crossbar and went out of play.

10 minutes. Ben Dhifallah saw his long range effort flying wide of the mark.

19 minutes. Goal – 1:0! Having received instructions by Mircea Lucescu, Adriano passed the ball to Srna. Mister was right: Darijo crossed to the far post for Mkhitaryan to tap the ball home from point blank range.

22 minutes. Fernandinho received the yellow card for simulation.

30 minutes. Both teams exchanged shots taken by Taison and DudekDragoevic and Kanibolotskiy made confident saves.

35 minutes. Taison tried to reach the penalty area through the centre, but the opponent dispossessed him with a sliding challenge.

46 minutes. During the break Mircea Lucescu made a substitution: Anton Kanibolotskiy was replaced by Andriy Pyatov.

51 minutes. Stepanenko advanced forward before shooting at goal. The ball took deflection off the opposing defender and went out for a corner.

54 minutes. Rakitskiy received the yellow card for a tactical foul in the middle of the pitch.

57 minutes. Second substitution in the Pitmen’s squad: Douglas Costa came on for Alex Teixeira.

63 minutes. Douglas beat the opponent inside the penalty area before taking a low shot. The goalkeeper failed to cover the ball, but the opposing defender was there to deny Stepanenko a chance to seize on the rebound.

67 minutes. Abbes stopped the ball with his hand. The referee showed him the yellow card, with the Pitmen earning a dangerous free-kick. Fernandinho hit the ball over the wall but his effort was saved by the opposition goalkeeper.

70 minutes. Luiz Adriano, Taison and Taras Stepanenko were replaced by Marko Devic, Eduardo and Dmytro Grechishkin.

73 minutes. Chygrynskiy won the ball in the centre of the pitch. Eduardo brought Costa into play, and Douglas fired goalwards with his favourite left foot. The ball went just wide of the post.

76 minutes. The Poles managed to initiate one of their few attacking moves. Abbes was ready to take a shot from close range, but Rakitskiy managed to clear the ball for a corner with a last-ditch tackle.

82 minutes. Goal – 2:0! Fernandinho picked up speed, skipped past Gavric and drilled a cross to the far post for Eduardo to put the ball into the back of the net in style.

87 minutes. Mykola Ischenko replaced Dmytro Chygrynskiy.

90+3 minutes. Goal – 2:1. Pawlowski showed individual craft inside Shakhtar’s penalty area, beat Rakitskiy, Srna and took an accurate shot at goal.

The referee signalled the end of the match and Shakhtar’s victory. The Pitmen claimed the third trophy during the winter break. Following the Matchworld Cup and a friendly Champions Super Cup, the Cup of Sun will also head to Donetsk.
