Match build-up
The Miners ended exactly half of their games in the current league campaign with a draw - 5 out of 10. This explains their being 3 points adrift of Dynamo, despite the fact that Luis Castro's men won the head-to-head meeting. Zorya, Rukh, Desna, Vorskla and Oleksandriia managed to score points in the encounters with the domestic champions. Before the end of the first stage, the Orange-and-Blacks are to face Dnipro-1, Minaj and Inhulets.
Yesterday, the team flew to Dnipro. 20 footballers went to participate in the game. Junior Moraes will not take part in it due to being sent off in the first half of last round’s game vs Oleksandriia. Dentinho is not on the player list either which means that Fernando is expected to spearhead Shakhtar attacks. It is important that Taison is back in the team - Shakhtar's No. 7 player trained in the general group yesterday and has every chance of benefitting the Miners.
Opponents
Dnipro-1 changed their coach in September. Dmytro Mykhailenko has resigned after heading the team for more than three years, explaining this by unsuccessfully starting the new league campaign: his men drew with Inhulets, later suffering defeats at Olimpik and Mariupol. Igor Jovicevic was appointed as the new manager.
The Croat also started with a defeat (1-4 to Oleksandriia). A 2-2 draw vs Vorskla was followed by victories over Desna (2-0) and Lviv (3-1). However, Dnipro-1 are approaching the match vs Shakhtar after three straight defeats: they lost to Dynamo (1-2), Kolos (0-2) and Minaj (2-3). We want to point out that Dnipro-1 netted both goals against the top-flight debutants from the spot.
The opponents have two suspended players: Khoblenko was sent off in the match against Minaj, and Nazarenko earned his fourth yellow card. By the way, Oleksandr played for the U21 team yesterday.
Head-to-head record
The clubs had two encounters last season: on both occasions, Shakhtar won with different scores (2-0 and 4-1).
Previous league meeting
On the 4th of March 4 in Kharkiv, Shakhtar scored four goals within thirty minutes. Initially Kryvtsov finished off Tete’s corner delivery, followed by a Moraes goal, and in the 19th minute Junior provided an assist for Taison. Shortly after that, Konoplyanka upset the Dnipro-based club: Dodo let the ball reach Tete, Yurchuk parried it away, but Yevhen was right there to hit the back of the net. The nominal visitors only managed to score one in the 82nd minute when Supryaha scored from the spot, making it 4-1.
