Match build-up

The Ukrainian Championship resumes after a fortnight’s break for international games. All this time, Luis Castro worked with a limited group of footballers that was supplemented by the Academy lads. Only a few days before the game against Vorskla, the team gathered in full strength and tried to prepare in the best possible way over a short period of time.

Shakhtar are second in the standings, being seven points adrift of Dynamo. This season, the Miners have tied on six occasions and suffered two defeats. After two straight victories over Olimpik and Desna, the champions lost to Lviv in Kharkiv just before the international break (2-3). Manor Solomon who has been rightly picked by the fans as Player of the Month for March, scored a double in that clash, just like in the previous round.

The Orange-and-Blacks arrived from Kyiv to Poltava by bus on Saturday evening. Hrytsenko, Khocholava, Matviienko, Ismaily, Korniienko, Malyshev, Tete and Konoplyanka are off the player list. Luis Castro has 21 footballers at his disposal.

Goalkeepers: Oleksii Shevchenko, Andriy Pyatov, Anatolii Trubin

Midfielders: Taras Stepanenko, Marcos Antonio, Dentinho, Marlos, Manor Solomon, Alan Patrick, Maycon, Marquinhos Cipriano, Serhii Bolbat, Heorhii Sudakov, Mykhailo Mudryk, Fernando

Opponents

Vorskla who have been headed by Yurii Maksymov for eighteen months now, are performing just fine this season. In 19 matches, the Poltava side scored 31 points: eight wins, seven draws and four defeats. After the winter, the White-Greens lost only once – to Dnipro-1 on March 13 (0-1), also drawing with Rukh and Inhulets and defeating Oleksandriia, Mariupol and Olimpik ... Ruslan Stepanyuk scored two goals against Shakhtar, being the second best scorer (6 goals) after Vladyslav Kulach (9).

Head-to-head record

In the first stage, Shakhtar and Vorskla did not determine the winners for the 10th time. The Miners won 38 times in the league, with the opponents claiming three wins. The goal difference is 104-30.

Previous meeting

Luis Castro recalledthe match that took place on October 24 at the Viktor Bannikov stadium in Kyiv. Back then, in the very beginning Dentinho did not reach the ball after Korniienko's cross, and Vorskla took the lead early - Kulach scored the his first goal against his former club in his career. He created several more chances, but did not convert them. And Solomon equalized in the 33rd minute thanks to Tete's assist. In the second half, Ndiaye left Vorskla short-handed, with Maycon, Marlos, Dentinho, Matviienko and Tete having chances, but the keeper Riznyk played brilliantly. The outcome is 1-1.
