Before the match
This meeting was supposed to take place 10 days ago, but it was postponed to a later datedue to some Rukh players testing positive for the coronavirus. While the rest of the UPL clubs have been recovering from the MD3 and preparing for the MD4, the Miners have to have another competitive game this week.
Luis Castro's men started the league campaign a month ago with a victory over Kolos (3-1), they also tied with Zorya (2-2) last week. Sergii Kryvtsovgot a little respite after equalizing in Zaporizhia - Luis Castro did not put his name on the player list vs Rukh. The team arrived in Lviv on Tuesday evening - there are 21 players on the preliminary list.
Curious fact
The Orange-and-Blacks' winning streak at the Arena Lviv totals exactly 20 games to date. It started after a 2-2 draw vs Sevilla back in May 2016 with a 3-0 thrashing of Dynamo. Through December, Shakhtar claimed 16 more wins there, later visiting the arena once per calendar year (defeating Veres and Lviv).
Opponents
Rukh are the Premier League newcomers, with the upcoming game being Shakhtar’s first competitive encounter with this club. The Yellow-Blacks have not yet scored any points in the top flight. Their league opener in Poltava turned out even worse for them than they could imagine: by the 50th minute, the Lviv side were losing 0-5 to Vorskla, still managing to score a couple of goals later (by Valerii Fedorchuk and Ihor Boychuk), and on September 20 Ivan Fedyk's men lost to Kolos 1-2 (they responded to Yevhen Morozko's double in stoppage time with a goal by Rostyslav Rusin).
