Shakhtar vs Hoverla: players’ reaction
After defeating the Uzhgorod side, the Pitmen have given their take on the match.
Eduardo, Shakhtar’s striker:
- This is my second goal since returning. I'm very happy. We were prepared for the fact that the opponent would go on the defensive. I think if we had scored in the first half, the result would be quite different. But we watched Hoverla’s previous games against Dnipro and Vorskla and were ready for the fact that they ‘would park a bus’, as their coach said. It only added to our motivation. Despite the fact that the head coach is constantly rotating the squad, in the five matches we have conceded only one goal, and it came from a penalty kick. It's good practice: those players who consistently play can have a rest, and others - prove themselves. And look at the result - it is positive!
Viktor Kovalenko, Shakhtar’s midfielder:
- This is my first game in the Premier League, when I was fielded in the starting lineup. And I think I did quite well. I feel good paired with Maksym Malyshev, Taras Stepanenko and Fred: we understand each other well. It is hard, of course, to play against a team that constantly sit in defence. We could have scored early in the first half, but we were a little bit unlucky. Yes, I had chances too, of course, I wanted to score. In the second half the opponents have slowed down. Maybe they were not ready physically – it is hard to play 90 minutes against Shakhtar and constantly employ defensive football. But the most important thing is that we have won, claiming all three points.
Azevedo, Shakhtar’s defender:
- Mister always asks me and Darijo to attack more, be faster. And today the coach instructed to operate energetically on the flanks to make it more difficult for the opponents to play on the counterattack. And it benefited the team. Of course, we tried to score in the first half, but failed. And then - a goal! And traditionally, as soon as we scored the first goal, it became easier, we gained more confidence. I would not say that we were extremely motivated for this game - no matter whether it is the players of Dynamo or the other team, we are determined to win. So I want to congratulate everyone of the victory.
Ivan Ordets, Shakhtar’s defender:
- It's nice that Mister named me the man of the match. Now I need to work even harder to try to prove that I really deserve a place in the first team. In the first half, Hoverla defended as a team, all the players were behind the line of the opponent's ball, there were six defenders, they would close down the central zone and flanks. It was very hard to carve open their defence. After the break, we scored a quick goal, Hoveral got open, and we had even more zones in the final third, and it resulted in the second goal. Now we have a very important match against Fenerbahce coming up, we need to win it. We will prepare in a good mood.
