In the new campaign of the Ukrainian U19 league Serhiy Kovalyov’s charges started with a big win over Illichivets Mariupol. Midway through the first half the Pitmen’s forward Oleg Gladchenko opened the scoring. After the break the Pitmen successfully worked the corner, when Dmytro Shevchenko sent the ball in.  Oleksandr Glagola wrapped the game up, after scoring following a slalom run and a cross from Dmytro Topalov. In the end of the match, the Pitmen were reduced to ten men – Volodymyr Grachyov. In the stoppage time, the Mariupol side had an opportunity to open the scoring from a penalty kick, but the opposition player Chengar fired the ball over the crossbar. Shakhtar U19 will play their next match in a week away at Oleksandriya.

Serhiy Kovalyov, head coach of Shakhtar U19:
- It was the first official match of the season, we were gearing up for a tough game. It was clear that the boys looked worried, so in the opening stages they did not control the ball well, making a lot of errors. As the game progressed, the boys got accustomed to the pitch, and the first goal gave us confidence. During the break, the boys were asked to play in a more accurate manner, move quickly from defense to attack. Gladchenko and Glagola started operating more energetically down the flanks. I would single out Topalov, who was the best player on the field. We created many chances but scored only three goals. We won a lot of set pieces, and one of them led to goal. Unfortunately, we were finishing the match with ten men, conceding a controversial penalty kick. Our coaching staff is happy with a result, but not really with a quality of the game. We will work on it.

Dmytro Topalov, Shakhtar U19 forward:
- The game was very hard for us. Weather did not allow us to show our best qualities, and then the opponents slowed down physically, and we managed to score goals. We cannot be satisfied with the first half. But it's nice that I made two goal assists and the coaches praised my game.

Oleg Gladchenko, Shakhtar U19 forward:
- I think some things did not work out because of our game not being streamlined yet. Still, we have been training for less than a month with this squad. But this victory definitely adds confidence to the team. Despite a big result, I would not say that the opponents were weak, and the game was put beyong their reach after the second goal. We are about to play Oleksandriya, who beat Dynamo away from home. So let's get ready for the next game very seriously.
