Shakhtar vs Fenerbahce: preview

The Pitmen will face Fenerbahce in the second leg of the Champions League third qualifying round. We bring you a preview of the game.

This is a game without favourites. The first game between the teams in Istanbul ended in a goalless draw. However, there cannot be absolute equality at the qualifying stage – the winners of the second leg will advance to the play-off stage to continue fighting for a place at the Champions League group stage.

After the first match with Fenerbahce, Mircea Lucescu seven changes to the lineup for the game with Hoverla. So, some players were rested after which they started their preparation for the Turkish side in the process of training sessions. We should also note that before the return leg Shakhtar held a training session on the pitch of Arena Lviv, 15 minutes of which were open to media.

As for Fenerbahce, the team’s head coach Vitor Pereyra took 22 players to Lviv.

In the first game, Shakhtar had great chances to score an away goal. The Pitmen had a quality first half and orchestrated a number of good attacking moves. On 16 minutes, Teixeira beat the offside trap to bear down on goal only to fire the ball wide. Late on Taison took a shot goal wards – Demirel came to rescue Fenerbahce. After the half time break, the Brazilian player skipped past the opposition defender during a counterattacking move, but failed to hit the far corner from a comfortable position. At the same time, Shakhtar were operating in collected manner in the defensive phase, so the game finished 0-0.
