Vorskla vs Shakhtar: preview
On Matchday 4 of the Ukrainian league, the Pitmen will face Vorskla in Poltava. We bring you the preview of the game.
9 August, Poltava, Vorskla, 19:30
Live broadcast on Futbol 1 channel
The teams will face each other after European mid-week. Having confidently beaten Fenerbahce, Shakhtar reached the Champions League third round play-off and are getting ready for the Premier League fixture in good spirits. The same cannot be said about Vorskla, who conceded a goal in the final seconds of the extra time to be eliminated from Zilina. No doubts that the Poltava side will play with huge desire and will look to make up for an unlucky result.
Referee – Anatoliy Abdula (Kharkiv)
Assistant referees – Viktor Kravchenko (Lviv), Semyon Shlonchak (Cherkasy)
Fourth official – Serhiy Boyko (Kyiv region)
Referee observer – Serhiy Zadiran (Dnipropetrovsk)
Vorskla’s midfielder Artyom Gromov missed the previous league game against Dnipro due to injury. He also sat out a game in the Europa League. Probably, one of the leaders of the Vorskla team will be able to take part in the Shakhtar game. It should also be noted that Stanislav Bogush is likely to return to action. He was suspended for the second leg versus Zilina, so it was Dmytro Nepogodov who was stationed in goal.
Teams’ scoring average:
Vorskla – 1 goal per game;
Shakhtar – 2,67 goals per game.

After a hard-fought win in Poltava at the start of the season, Shakhtar easily beat Vorskla in Lviv. In fact, the match proved to be quite difficult. Before the midway of the first half, Vasyl Sachko’s charges headed to the training camp, closing down all the zones. On 20 minutes Taison hit the goal post on 20 minutes. Shakhtar scored after five minutes, when the defender tried to block a Teixeira shot after a pass from Adriano, but Shevchuk rushed forward to make it 1-0.
Energetic actions from Costa and Taison before the break led to the hosts extending the lead. But it happened in the second half. On 49 minutes, Douglas Costa received a ball from Ilsinho before drifting towards the centre, skipping past the defender to hit the far corner of the net. Despite the sending off of Ordets midway through the game, Shakhtar looked better. And very soon they extended their lead: Adriano made a run down the flank before making a pass to the centre for Teixeira to make it 3-0.l
