The opening stages of one-tie games traditionally bring the fans matches of top teams against sides from lower leagues. The upcoming game has clear favourites – Shakhtar. After a tough match in Vienna, Mircea Lucescu’s charges are to make the next step in the domestic Cup. The Pitmen will face the opponents, who have recently got a professional status.
After four rounds in the Second League, Arsenal-Kyiv are sitting in tenth place out of fourteen. At the start of the season, the Pitmen’s opponents lost twice and one game ended in a draw, and on 15 August they took all three points. Thanks to goals from Roman Adamenko and Mykola Kovtalyuk, the Kyiv side got a hard-fought 2-1 win over Krystal Kherson, who had gone undefeated before that game.
In August, a new coach took over at Arsenal. Angel Chervenkov took charge of the team, who is known for working at Sevastopol. Interestingly, the job of the Bulgarian coach at the club is general manager. Arsenal management is hoping that Chervenkov’s young team can make progress and move forward.

This game took place almost eight years ago. In 2007 Shakhtar and Arsenal faced each other at the last-16 stage at RSC Olimpiyskiy, where Shakhtar showcased great football and got a confident win. On 3 minutes, Tomas Hubschman fired an excellent shot, a little late Brandao extended the Pitmen’s lead. The visitors pulled one goal back before the half time break – Essola seized on the rebound after a set piece. During the second half Shakhtar extended their lead further: on 60 minutes, Willian scored his first goal in the official matches for the Pitmen, before Jadson made it 4-1.
