Before match

The game at the Arena Lviv took place ahead of the Donetsk City Day and the Miners Day. For that occasion, players of the Donetsk team made a team photo in the orange mining helmets. As for the starting line-up, Mircea Lucescu made considerable changes to the squad compared to the Rapid game. It should be noted that Bohdan Sarnavskyy played his first match for Shakhtar in the Ukrainian Premier League. Dentinho was named in the starting eleven for the first time this season.

First half

As early as in the opening minute, Shakhtar created their first chance: Viktor Kovalenko played a one-two with Dentinho, before the Brazilian struck a shot goal wards, only to see his shot blocked by the opposition defender. As the game progressed, Dentinho played quite energetically. On 17 minutes, his another shot hit the defender’s hand, but the referee waved play on. Then, the Brazilian player performed an overhead kick but failed to hit the target. And on 32 minutes, he took a headed shot but the ball flew just wide of the goal post.

The Pitmen dominated proceedings, thus defenders would join attacking moves. In the opening stages of the game, Yaroslav Rakytskyy came close to sending the ball into the top corner – the opposition goalkeeper came to the rescue. Metalurh organised their first serious attacking move only on 37 minutes, earning two corner kicks and taking two dangerous shots goal wards. The first half ended 0-0, with the visitors being awarded four yellow cards.

Second half

During the break, Dentinho was replaced by Marlos. The Pitmen started playing faster and on 56 minutes they hit Metalurh Z, when Bernard made a slalom run before hitting a shot towards the near corner – the goalkeeper had to work hard to make a save. Soon Oleksandr Gladkyy took to the pitch, and he immediately had a chance: Azevedo delivered a cross for Gladkyy to head the ball goalwards – Metalurh’s goalkeeper parried the ball away before covering the ball.

On 63 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty kick against Metalurh Z. Darijo Srna took a shot goal wards, the opposition defender handballed, and Alex Teixeira planted the ball into the bottom corner of the net from a penalty spot to score his sixth goal in the league – 1-0. Soon the league’s top scorer could have scored another goal, but the goalkeeper made a save and then also stopped an Azevedo effort.

On 86 minutes, the visitors earned a penalty kick, with Srna being sent off for a professional foul. Sarnavskiy guessed the direction of the shot to parry away a shot! Then Metalurh were reduced to ten men too after Orelesi got the second yellow card. In the stoppage time, Marlos put Teixeira through on goal, who expertly rolled the ball into the far corner of the net to seal his seventh league goal. As a result, Shakhtar got a 2-0 win to claim their 13th point after six rounds and are now sitting in second place in the table. The Pitmen will play their next match away at Metalist.
