U21. Shakhtar vs Karpaty: players’ view

Players of the Donetsk team have reflected on the game with Karpaty Lviv.

Vasyl Sagaidak, Shakhtar U21 defender:

- In matches with Karpaty, we always have a great desire. In recent years, the games with this team have been very difficult, and it is a double pleasure to win in such conditions. In the first half, probably, we did not succeed in terms of attack, but most importantly, in the defence we played safe and compact. The opponent looked for our mistakes, but we did not give them a chance. After the break, whenever possible, I connected to the attacks, taking two shots on goal. At half-time, the coach told us that Karpaty slow down in the second half, but from our side it was necessary to increase the pressure. Considering the number of chances we created, we could have easily beaten Karpaty 5-0. Our team gathered momentum, showed good movement and recovered the ball well.

Mykhailo Shyshka, Shakhtar U21 captain:

- The matches with Karpaty are hard also due to the fact that they usually take place in bad weather, on poor fields. Today the pitch was normal. Anyway, we faced a very good team, they made us run, fight. The game itself brought pleasure. The goal in the end of the first half affected the situation on the field - it is a purely psychological factor. Many things have turned out well, though conversion of chances was not up to the mark; the fate of the match could have been sealed earlier. It is very important that we finished the autumn part of the season in the first place! It is impossible to be satisfied with the team’s performance – we still have not achieved the maximum result. We lost points to Stal, suffered a defeat at the hands of Oleksandriya, in the Dynamo clash we did not look like ourselves. But in general I can say that the team are on the right path, we will continue to work. It is necessary to win the league, because we haven’t won for a long time.

Andriy Boyarchuk, Shakhtar U21:

- The most important event in the first half was a goal in the closing stages. After the break, we stepped up our game. On synthetics, we do not train, and the artificial field in Uzhgorod was very uncomfortable – unlike tomorrow. I like the Lviv team: the opponents are trying to control the ball, they play football. We should not look at the table – Karpaty’s 11th place doesn’t say anything. Yes, today we scored two goals, although we could have netted more goals. However, there is satisfaction from the game, from me and the team. I don’t set the goal mark for yourself. The principle is simple: the more, the better. I think the first half of the season is quite successful for us, if we don’t into account the unpleasant moments. Our task is still the maximum one – to win the championship.
