210 thousand kids will receive gifts from Rinat Akhmetov
Ahead of St. Nicholas Day and the New Year holidays, 210,000 children will receive presents from Rinat Akhmetov. The campaign will be carried out by the Humanitarian Centre and all businesses of SCM Group.
Rinat Akhmetov helps children throughout his life. 15 years ago, he started streamlining his aid into the large-scale consistent operations, covering different categories of children: orphans, ill children who need support and care.
Back in 2001, Rinat Akhmetov and his friend Igor Krutoy initiated a full-scale project to help children in childcare centres of Donetsk, which quickly expanded to the entire Donbas and other cities in Ukraine. Before the New Year day, the president of Shakhtar and the composer personally visited orphanages, boarding schools and other institutions to give еру children their attention and warmth, to provide the necessary assistance, to draw public attention to the problem of child abandonment, urging all the concerned people to seek ways to solve it. Annually, the campaign grew scale and project wise and soon it became a separate activity of the Rinat Akhmetov charitable foundation.
- Rinat Akhmetov has always helped and will help children on. Children will always be his priority, – stressed the Humanitarian Centre Coordinator Rimma Fil.
And today, helping children is a priority.
- When trouble came to the land of Donbas, the first thing Rinat Akhmetov was setting the task to save the children, bringing the family-type homes and orphanages out of the combat zone. So started the first project of the Humanitarian Centre called the evacuation, – recalls Rimma Fil. – The life, personal and civil philosophy of Rinat Akhmetov remains unchanged – to provide the most help to the neediest, the most helpless people. So these days, all the war babies have been the most important daily and hourly priority in the operation of the Humanitarian Centre and the businesses of SCM Group. We have been helping all the wounded kids, we assist them in purchasing insulin and other essential medication, in emergency surgeries, treatment and rehabilitation, we provide the children of Donbas with food sets.
Monthly, the Centre distributes about 50 thousand food kits as part of the Let’s Help Children programme. As of December 9, 2015, they have distributed 413,000 sets for children's survival on both sides of the contact line.
