(U-17) Shakhtar vs Metalurh Z: match report
In the semi-final of the DUFL, 3 July, the Pitmen U-17 faced Metalurh Zaporizhzhya.
As expected, at such stage of the competition, there are no easy games. Both teams were motivated a lot and fought for the end in every episode. Metalurh were a bit more successful, they opened the scoring, and a little later they managed to cement their lead with a second goal against Shakhtar. The Pitmen managed to score only on 62 minutes. Sirosh was brought down in the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty-kick. Vadym converted it. However, the Zaporizhzhya side managed to hold onto the win and eliminated the Pitmen from the league title race.
Now the Pitmen will face Dnipro in the DUFL third-place match versus Dnipro on 5 July.
Shakhtar U-17 head coach Gennadiy Orbu has reflected on the match:
- I think that we had to win. But, as I have already said, we have squad problems and we were just short of energy. Eight-nine players were unable to perform in the league all the time. We were missing Tkachuk, Khachaev, plus Slastinov got injured today. I am not pleased, but in football it happens sometimes. I take all the blame for the result. Then we will make decisions, whom to recommend for Shakhtar U-19. We will gear up for the third-place match.
