Shakhtar at Euro 2015: France beat Ukraine
On 9 July, in the second game of the final part of the European Championship 2015, Ukraine U-19 faced France. The match featured players from Shakhtar Academy: Mykola Matvienko, Igor Kiryukhantsev, Viktor Kovalenko, Beka Vachiberadze, Oleksandr Zubkov and Andriy Boryachuk.
The opponents made it clear straight from the start that they are determined to give their best. The referee had to stop the game quite often because of two teams breaking the rules, although there were not rough challenges on the pitch. The opponents were exchanging shots. Energetic Vachiberadze took a dangerous shot – straight into the opposition goalkeeper’s hands. On 31 minutes, the French found a free zone inside the Ukraine defence and put Gi rassi through on goal, who confidently beat our goalkeeper. Dembele, who came on as a sub in the end of the first half, could have increased his team’s lead, but Soldatenko parried away his powerful shot. On 55 minutes, Zubkov received a pass on the flank, drifted towards the penalty area and fired into the top corner from a tight angle. France responded quickly. Dembele skipped past four Ukrainian defenders thanks to his individual craft before planting a low shot into the net to make it 1-2. In the remaining time, Ukraine took the game to the opponents’ half. However, Oleklsandr Holovko’s charges failed to take a finishing shot. The game was wrapped up when the ball took deflection off Lukyanchuk following France’s cross from the right flank and flew into the net.
