Mircea Lucescu invited U21 players to senior team’s training
After resting half a day following a game with Oleksandriya, in the evening of July 20 Shakhtar held a training session in Sviatoshyn.
Before the session, the team wished a happy birthday to Alexandru Spiridon, who turned 55. Then Mister drew the players’ attention: today an Academy newcomer Gіorgi Arabidze and three U21 players – Oleksandr Zubkov, Andriy Boyarchuk and Igor Kiryukhantsev – are training with the senior team.
- I invited several youth team players on purpose. They will gain experience by training with the first team – Mircea Lucescu says. – Young players need time to integrate into our game. For example, Bernard needed two years for that. The same applies to Nem. Initially, Dentinho did not understand our demands either; it happened only after he returned from loan. Now I am waiting for more mature games by Facundo Ferreyra. So I want U21 players to gradually blend into the training process of the senior team.
It should be noted that Shakhtar U21 assistant head coach Igor Duljaj has also been present in today’s training session.
As for today’s activities, it was a traditional post-match session. Those players, who spent more than 70 minutes on the field in the game against Oleksandriya, had running exercises and shortened aerobic programme. The rest of the players had an hour and a half training session.
By the way, the Svyatoshyn base was unusually crowded on 20 July. Kids from the hockey club Donbas were holding their training session in a noisy and funny manner on the mini pitch, which was 10 metres away from Shakhtar. And professional athletes were running on the track around the field.
