Man of the match - Elano

Shakhtar’s Brazilian midfielder scored the winning goal in the 40th minute. Elano broke away from Omoko and Gueye and sent it home past Postranskyi.

Highlight of the match

It took Ciprian Marica just four minutes to earn two yellow cards and leave his team short-handed. This trouble occurred shortly before the end of the meeting. Fortunately for Shakhtar, the Lutsk side did not make use of their numerical advantage.

Quote of the match - Mircea Lucescu:

- It was a very hard encounter. We played right after our Super Cup win, still kind of continuing to celebrate our success, so we didn’t get our act together properly. And Volyn fully took advantage of that.

Ukrainian League 2010/11. 7th round. August 21, 2010. Lutsk. Avangard stadium. Att: 11,520

Volyn 0-1 (0-0) Shakhtar

Goal: Eduardo (74’)

Shakhtar: Pyatov, Srna (c), Kucher, Chygrynskiy, Kobin, Hübschman, Fernandinho, Jadson (Eduardo – 56’), Willian, Costa (Teixeira - 79’), Adriano (Moreno - 74’)

Head coach: Mircea Lucescu

Highlight of the match

Just like five years ago, Shakhtar had to finish the game with ten men. On 89 minutes, Vasyl Kobin brought an opponent down in the heat of the competition. The yellow card awarded was the Shakhtar defender’s second one.

Man of the match - Eduardo

Mircea Lucescu made an effective substitution by fielding the Brazilian Croat in the second half. On 73 minutes, Darijo Srna crossed the ball into the penalty area for Willian. The letter fired a header, taking advantage of Issa Ndoye poorly cutting down the angle. Bohdan Butko pulled the ball from virtually empty goal, but straight to Eduardo, who masterfully handled the situation and sent it home.

Quote of the match - Vitaliy Kvartsyanyi, head coach of Volyn:

- I told the players at half-time that any mistake would lead to a goal. Lack of concentration - and there you go ... All the work just went down the drain.
