This encounter will open the 2nd round of the championship. Fans can safely expect an uncompromising and hard-fought match for both sides. To see this, just take a look at the previous encounter between Volyn and Shakhtar in Lutsk. The team of Vitaliy Kvartsyanyi are always super-motivated for the games against the Pitmen, being doubly dangerous at their home ground.

For Volyn, the season kicked off with a draw in Poltava, where Vorskla looked more dangerous offensively, though the Lutsk side were the first to score. As a result, their opponents had to try hard to avoid defeat – they managed to do that through a goal 9 minutes from time. Meanwhile, Shakhtar defeated Oleksandriya 2-0 (with Alex Teixeira grabbing a brace).

At the end of last season, Volyn managed to take points away from Shakhtar at home. From the off, Lutsk opted for the tactics of causing minor fouls at a safe distance from their goal. From time to time, the Pitmen’s attacks proved effective, but the home side's defence headed by Bohdan Shust operated reliably. And midway through the first half, the charges of Vitaliy Kvartsyanyi produced a good attacking move: Babatunde was running from Fred in the centre circle, though the latter still pulled even with the opponent and prevented his precision attempt, so the Nigerian hit Pyatov with the ball. At the opposite goal, Adriano and Rakits’kyy had chances, but Volyn survived.

The whole team also stayed in their half in the opening minutes of the second half, operating on the counter. On 63 minutes, Teixeira shot a Gladkyy cross at goal, with Shabanov making a spectacular save. Shust coped with the uncomfortable rebound off ground following Costa’s attempt. The Pitmen had their best chance midway through the second half, when Fred hit the woodwork, while Polyovyi literally cleared the ball off the line following Gladkyy’s finishing touch. As a result, the more than tense match ended goalless.
