U21. Volyn vs Shakhtar: match preview
On Friday, Matchday 2 of the Ukrainian U21 league, the Pitmen will play an away game with Volyn. We bring you a preview of the match.

In the last round, Shakhtar U21 got a 1-0 win over Oleksandriya. That game took place at the Knyazha Arena in the Schaslyve settlement near Kyiv, where Miguel Cardoso’s team are based in. The game for the Pitmen proved to be not easy, with Sergiy Gryn scoring the goal the only goal in the match.
As for Volyn U21, this team suffered a devastating 5-0 defeat in the opening game in Poltava against Vorskla. As for Volyn, they finished 10 out of 14 teams. The highest achievement of Vorskla U21 is 9 place in 2004-05 season (16 teams).

Many of Shakhtar U19 players are now part of the Shakhtar reserve side; the Pitmen who reached the UEFA Youth League final last year. Besides, seven of them have recently returned from international duty with Ukraine U19, who played in the finals of the European championship in Greece. In the match with Oleksandriya, the Pitmen’s reserve side featured the first-team players: Ismaily, Mykola Matviienko, Sergiy Gryn and Facundo Ferreyra. Volyn’s coaching staff also used the players, who have an experience of playing for the Premier League: Vitaliy Pryndeta, Dmytro Zaderetkiy and Serhiy Petrov.
In two matches of the past season Shakhtar U21 scored 13 goals against their peers from Volyn. In the first round game, in Poltava, the Pitmen won 6-3, with Artur Zagorulko and Viktor Kovalenko sealing their braces. On 4 May, in Lutsk, the Podshypnik stadium saw Miguel Cardoso’s charges registering a 7-1 win. Two goals were scored by Zogorulko, as well as Dmytro Ivanisenya. Igor Duts, Denys Bezborodko and Vyacheslav Tankovskyi (penalty) also got on the scoresheet.
