Viktor Kovalenko grabbed a brace in the World Cup
On June 2, in the FIFA U-20 World Cup second leg, Ukraine U-20 reduced their opponents to powder. Shakhtar Academy boys Bohdan Sarnavskyi, Viktor Kovalenko and Artem Habelok took part in the encounter.
The Ukrainians opened the scoring already in the 4th minute. Besedin bore down on goal, though Latt parried his effort away. The charges of Oleksandr Petrakov charged forward continuously and regularly created danger near Myanmar’s goal. The opponents tried to respond with pressure throughout the pitch. However, the rest of the goals passed to the second half of the game. On 51 minutes, Yaremchuk got on end of Chumak’s pass, and in the following six minutes Luchkevych and Kovalenko put their names on the scoresheet. Then the opponents fully dropped deep, but it played into the hands of the Ukrainians. Sobol scored Ukraine’s fourth goal against Myanmar, with Besedin getting himself on the scoresheet in the attack to follow. On 75 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty for T.H. Aung’s handball and showed the latter a red card. The spot kick was taken by Polehenko – it went just wide. And Kovalenko sealed the win by sending home the 6th goal against Myanmar.
