Before match

Due to suspension, Fred was missing the game, so the pair of central defenders consisted of Taras Stepanenko and Ilsinho. From the first minutes, Bernard was operating in the position of the left winger. Serhiy Rebrov made only one change compared to the last league game, leaving Yuness Belhanda on the bench and fielding Serhiy Rybalka.

First half

On 10 minutes, Shakhtar had a real chance to take the lead: following a cross from Shevchuk, Adriano flicked the ball onto Srna, who fired a powerful effort across the opposition crossbar. Midway through the half, the Kyiv side responded with a dangerous episode: Yarmolenko advanced with the ball, drifted towards centre and took a left footed shot – Pyatov made a save. Later Costa and Adriano missed the target. Straight before the half time break, Kucher suffered a head injury during an individual battle inside his own penalty area, and Mircea Lucescu was forced to make a change.

Second half

The nature of the game remained the same after the break. Shakhtar reached the opposition penalty area and often earned corner-kicks, Dynamo played competently in defence.  Considering a lot of challenges in every area of the pitch, the number of fouls, and yellow cards increased. The only thing that the teams failed to do was to bring attacks to shots from good positions. The full time ended 0-0.

Extra time

Mircea Lucescu made a change, fielding Hladkyi instead of Ilisnho. Teixeira dropped deeper into the middle of the pitch. The teams were exchanging attacking moves. On 101 minutes Veloso decided to take a long range effort – the ball went wide of the goal post. In the opposition half of the pitch Hladkyi won the areal challenge versus Antunes, but hit Shovkovskyi. The Kyiv side reacted with a shot from Yarmolenko – Pyatov made a save at the near corner. In the beginning of the second 15-minue period Khacheridi headed goalwards a cross from a corner, and Shevchuk hit the ball away from the goal line. Dynamo’s corner resulted in inaccurate shot from Kryvtsov. Not long before the second extra time Rybalka was sent off for receiving the second yellow card, but it did not affect the flow of the game.

Penalty shoot-out

In the football lottery the Kyiv side proved to be luckier. Penalty kicks were converted by Dragovic, Gusev, Yarmolenko, Belhanda, Khacheridi – Srna, Adriano, Costa, Teixeira. Missed: Veloso, Antunes – Taison, Rakitskiy, Hladkyi. So, the Ukrainian Cup has been won by Dynamo.
