(U-19) Shakhtar vs Chornomorets: players’ opinion
Young Pitmen have reflected on the victory in the Ukrainian league.
Mykola Matvienko, Shakhtar U-19 defender:
- The match was tense. We needed a victory today to win the league title. We took to the pitch and showed that at the moment we are the best team in Ukraine. Each opponent during the championship was gearing up very seriously versus us. They saw that we reached the final of the UEFA Youth League, wanted to beat us and to prove that they are no worse. Therefore, all of our matches were hard. Nevertheless, we coped with that. This is our most successful season. Now we are very happy! It is my third year in the U-19 team, and I have become the champion here for the first time. We must continue to work on to make transition to senior football in a proper manner. We set our goals higher and higher, we will strive to get into the first team.
Oleksandr Pikhalyonok, Shakhtar U-19 midfielder:
- Today we have fully complied with the pre-match instructions. The coach is very pleased with the result. Valeriy Serhiyovych came into the dressing room, praised and congratulated us. Everything we wanted before this match worked out. Thoughts and impressions are only positive! The season was very good and memorable: playing in the final of the Youth League, becoming the champions... We are very happy. I would like to single out each player: everyone has given his all during the competition, no one allowed himself to relax! We worked on the overall result.
Igor Kiryukhantsev, Shakhtar U-19 defender:
- Emotions, of course, are overwhelming! It has been a difficult and at the same time a very interesting season. Everyone has given his all, everyone worked on the result, and as a result the team has achieved the goal. At the moment it is the best season of my career, considering the results in the Youth League and the league championship in Ukraine. I think the secret of our success is discipline, excellent team, each player’s serious attitude to the work. Coaches have put their heart and soul into us. We could not let them down! But, of course, we are not going to relax. There is still a lot of work to get into the first team of Shakhtar.
