(DUFL) Shakhtar 3-1 Karpaty
On 14 June, in the return leg of the knockout stage of the DUFL, the Pitmen entertained Karpaty.
The Pitmen managed to quickly materialize their dominance. After a perfectly made pass from Koryakin, Vyachistyi bore down on goal before planting a shot into the far corner of the net. On 29 minutes, Pribluda, thanks to his individual craft, managed to cement his team’s lead. However, in the end of the half, Karpaty managed to net a goal and brought the intrigue back to the match. In the second half, the Lviv side actively went forward and created a danger near Shakhtar’s goal thanks to a large number of set pieces. In the extra time, the opponents took another corner-kick. The opposition goalkeeper joined the attacking move during a corner-kick. Gurskiy played well in that episode to intercept the ball, made a quick pass to Drozdov – the latter bore down on goal, but the Lviv outfield player arrived first to goal and blocked the shot, but Gritsa played on the rebound to wrap up the game.
Shakhtar U-21 head coach Oleksandr Koval has reflected on the game:
- We played in the very hot weather. The teams, obviously, got tired. As early as in the first half, it was felt that it was hard for the opponents, there were gaps between the lines. It was clear that the boys were late in some episodes. We managed to hold onto the end. Now, being in a good mood, we are now preparing for future challenges.
