U19. Shakhtar vs Malmo: players’ opinion
Footballers of the Donetsk team reflect on the victory over Malmo.
Vladyslav Bugai, Shakhtar U19 forward:
- In such matches, even being behind, you need to play until the last minute – as this is similar to the Champions League! After conceding a goal, we didn’t get upset, just supporting each other instead - and we ultimately did it. Today, the opponents were unable to surprise us with anything, producing the performance we expected from them: Malmo played more defensively, operated more on their half, without attacking. We had analysed all that in our theory sessions. I am very happy to have scored my first goal in this competition! According to the coach’s game plan, I was running to the near post, Giorgi Arabidze saw me and I got on end of his pass. We practised this set piece in training.
Oleksandr Pikhalyonok, Shakhtar U19 midfielder:
- Every game for us now is critical, because we lost many points. Now we should win only! Today we showed good commitment, quality game, so this has led to a victorious outcome. We dominated it throughout the game, so we scored three goals, but could have scored even more. In general, we knew that Malmo would operate defensively. After the match in Sweden analysed the details, it helped us. I think that with every round we play increasingly better which bears fruit.
