Shakhtar on international duty: Fred shattered crossbar
On the night of November 12, Brazil Olympic football team had a tune-up friendly.
Brazil U23 2-1 USA U23
Goals: 1-0 Gabriel (42’), 2-0 Luan (46’), 2-1 Kiesewetter (59’, pen.)
Brazil: Ederson, Fabinho, Rodrigo Ely, Doria, Wendell (Jorge, 86’), Lucas Silva (Rodrigo Caio, 82’), Fred, Felipe Anderson (Valdivia, 76’), Gabriel (Gustavo Scarpa, 82’), Luan (Kennedy, 77’), Gabriel Jesus (Marlon, 58’)
Shakhtar midfielder Fred appeared in the starting line-up having his usual number 8 and played the entire match.
As early as the opening stages of the game, the Brazilians dominated the proceedings. Lucas Silva and Fred produced great strikes from outside the penalty area only to see the opposition keeper stop them. The hosts managed to take the lead only at the end of the first half when Gabriel converted his chance.
Early in the second half, Luan scored a curling stunner for Selecao. On 58 minutes, the Brazilians were left short-handed after sending off Doria, with the US lads pulling one back. But even with ten men, the home side secured a confident win. The score could be even bigger as a few minutes away from time, Fred hit the crossbar from the edge of the box.
Brazil Olympic team will have their next friendly game on November 15 against the same opponents.
