Shakhtar in U19 national team: Ukraine make it to EURO 2016 elite round
In November period of national teams’ games, the Ukrainian boys teams had to solve the toughest competition tasks. The Yellow-Blues went to Azerbaijan, where they held a mini-tournament including three Euro 2016 qualifiers. The team mentor Oleg Kuznetsov took four players of Shakhtar: Dmytro Shevchenko, Oleksandr Pikhalyonok, Yaroslav Fursov and Andriy Korobenko.
In the first encounter on November 10, Ukraine U19 defeated their Azerbaijan counterparts 4-0. The Pitmen Shevchenko and Pikhalyonok scored one goal each.
Two days later, the Ukrainians had a chance to prove their character in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Initially losing, they managed to reverse it and claim a 3-1 win.
But the most outstanding was the encounter with the Turks, which took place on 15 November. After the first half, the Yellow-Blues were winning 3-0 owing to the goals by Shved, Schebetun and Pikhalyonok. But in the second half, Turkey scored four goals. Besides, the Ukrainians were finishing the game with nine men, with red cards earned by Senytsya and Mykhailychenko in the 69th and 71st minutes, respectively.
Thus, based on the results of the qualifying matches, Ukraine U19 team sit in the second spot in the group, yielding the top position to Turkey. According to the regulations, Ukrainian young men advance to the elite round of the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying stage to take place in the spring.
