Before the match

First team players were involved for the Pitmen: Serhiy Kryvtsov took up a position in central defence, Mykola Matvienko down the left wing, with Sergiy Gryn playing as a nominal left winger, who took the field after a break. Heavy rain wetted the field and did not stop during the meeting.

First half

Initially, the weather brought about changes to the game. The visitors have adopted long passes, with the Pitmen trying to establish combinational football even in those tough conditions. The first orchestrated attack proved effective: Artem Gabelok crossed from the right along the goal line, with Sergiy Gryn bundling the ball into the net to make it 1-0. After 15 minutes, Andriy Boryachuk, after beating his opponent, brought Oleksandr Zubkov one-on-one with the keeper, with the former producing a powerful left-footer to make it 2-0.

Even before the break the score could have become big, but Boryachuk and Matviyenko wasted their chances. Besides, Kryvtsov failed to head it home from a close range. As for the Lutsk side, the visitors made two dangerous shots from the edge of the box to no avail.

Second half

The rain fell incessantly, and the drainage system was struggling to cope with large amounts of water on the pitch. However, the Pitmen stepped it up after the break, with the hosts dominating it. On 56 minutes, another connection by Matvienko on the left wing led to the third goal: after shooting it to the near post, the defender of Lutsk Roman Mykytyuk unsuccessfully put his foot across and scored an own goal to make it 3-0. Immediatelyafterwards, Gabelok and Zubkov wasted their chances, with the later substitute Bogdan Kuksenko shot it over the crossbar.

Volyn unexpectedly pulled one back in the 68th minute, using a corner, when the same Roman Mykytyuk at the far post headed the ball home to make it 3-1. After that, the Pitmen continued to control the ball, although is never came to converting their chances. And on 83 minutes, the best scorer of the championship Boryachuk did not manage to increase his scoring after not converting s spot kick, which was awarded for bring down the substitute Vladyslav Bugai. Before the final whistle, the opponents had no opportunities to change the score.

Thus, the charges of Miguel Cardoso claimed a confideen twin at Volyn (3-1), scoring 34 points and continuing to top the U21 table. The Pitmen will play their next match away on November 28 against the outsiders of the championship Hoverla.

Miguel Cardoso, Shakhtar U21 head coach:

- In this match we had to win! We are left with only one way: to win all the remaining matches. We are determined to stay in the first place before a winter break. It is an obvious goal for Shakhtar. At the same time we must not forget about the development. Guys need to understand that they should always give their best, be motivated to fight for the highest place, accomplish common tasks. Today it was a difficult game in difficult conditions. We had to show our mettle, step up the level of aggression and intensity. We passed this test, so we managed to win. I'm happy with the team’s performance, spirit, but not with all the players. We started the match well and played the same way in the second half. Unfortunately, the only mistake during a corner kick led to conceding a goal.
