Shakhtar’s previous game with Chornomorets also took place at the Arena Lviv and saw the Pitmen claim a more than confident win. As early as on 4 minutes, the Pitmen could have opened the scoring following a great move involving Brazilian players, but Costa failed to hit the target. Chornomorets started playing with more confidence midway through the first half, but did not create anything, whereas Shakhtar had a few decent chances. On 30 minutes, Chornomorets were reduced to ten men after Oliynyk’s foul on Ismaily.

Either way, the teams went into the break at 0-0. In the second half, the Odesa side sat deep in defence. The Pitmen continued piling on pressure, netting a goal on 61 minutes: Costa sent the ball into the far corner of the net. After ten minutes AAdriano showed individual craft following a pass from Srna to make it 2-0. Shakhtar started playing in a more open manner, and it led to goals from Taras Stepanenko, Adriano and Taison. The final score of 5-0 fully reflected what was going on the pitch.
