Shakhtar players on international duty: Croatia hammered Bulgaria
On 10 October, Croatia national team played their Matchday 9 game of the Euro 2016 qualifying round. Croatia entertained Bulgaria.
Croatia 3-0 Bulgaria
Goals: 1:0 Perisic (2), 2:0 Rakitić (42), 3:0 Kalinic (81)
Croatia: Subasic, Srna, Corluka, Vida, Pivaric, Modric (Badelj, 46), Kovacic, Perisic, Rakitic, Piazza (Chop, 60), Kalinic (Kramaric, 86)
Shakhtar’s and Croatia captain Darijo Srna was fielded in the starting line-up and was traditionally energetic. Overall, the hosts held a successful first half, getting a comfortable 2-goal lead before the half time break. A lot was decided by an early goal from Perisic after a Modric pass on 2 minutes. Later, it was Rakitic who fired the ball in.
In the second half there was not an extremely high-tempo end-to-end game. Croatia looked better and extended their lead as a result. Nine minutes from time, Perisic made a great run down the flank before delivering a cross to the far post for Kalinic to send the ball in to make it 3-0. Thus, Croatia got a confident win over Bulgaria.
The final round will see Ante Cacic’s team face Malta, and Norway, who are going second, will hold their match in Italy, who have already booked their place in the Euro 2016 finals.
