Shakhtar players on international duty: Darijo Srna going to Euro 2016

On October 13, the Croatia national team played their Euro 2016 qualifier on Matchday 10.

Malta 0-1 Croatia

Goal: Perisic (24)

Croatia: Subasic, Corluka, Pivaric, Rakitic (Brozović, 78), Srna, Badelj, Kovačić, Vida, Perisic, Piazza (Olic, 83), Kalinic (Kramaric, 60)

Darijo Srna was fielded in the starting line-up. Shakhtar’s and Croatia’s captain was one of the most energetic players and literally guided his team to a win. On 24 minutes, after a Darijo cross from the flank, the ball was picked up by Ivan Perisic, who opened the scoring.

Perisic could have sealed his brace, but failed to score on 59 minutes from a good position. The hosts organized a couple of dangerous counterattacks too, with one of them almost resulting in a goal, but Subasic played confidently in defence.

As a result, one goal sealed the fate of the game. Croatia got a win to book their place at Euro 2016. In other game of Group H Italy beat Norway 2-1.
