Live broadcast on Futbol 2 TV channel

Shakhtar’s 5-0 win in Ternopil has become their biggest victory in the opening eight games of the Cup Last 16 stage. In the return game, the Pitmen will need to consolidate their advantage.

Ternopil’s First League performance is quite poor so far, with the team occupying the second position from bottom after claiming 12 points in 14 rounds. Last week, Ternopil suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Mykolayiv. The team of Vasyl Ivehesh have been undergoing a series of setbacks: after two wins in September, the team lost four league games in a row. However, the sides sit in the First League table quite narrowly, so in case of their rivals’ misfires and given their own success, Ternopil may well climb higher.

Pre-match situation

Shakhtar and Ternopil have no suspended players. The teams were thoroughly preparing for the upcoming match. The Ternopil club reported that Sunday's training session was not attended by midfielder Vasyl Chornyi and striker Andriy Reznik.

As for Shakhtar, a few days ago three U21 players joined the first team: Andriy Korobenko, Oleksandr Zubkov and Andriy Boryachuk. Plus Taison returned to the general group.

The match caused great public excitement: the Ternopil stadium was filled to capacity. Shakhtar had to secure some points before the second game, and the team has completed the task well. From the opening whistle Mircea Lucescu’s charges shut the hosts on their half, and on 34 minutes Chornobai had to get the ball out of the net for the first time: Ismaily’s run down the left wing and and his delivery into the centre of the box resulted in the precision shot by Malyshev just under the crossbar.

The second half was a clear benefit performance for the Pitmen. As early as on 47 minutes, Bernard technically sent home a pass provided by Eduardo. A bit later, the Brazilian grabbed a brace, masterfully converting a free kick. In the reporting match Mircea Lucescu gave the young talents an opportunity to make their debut for the first team. Oleksandr Zubkov appeared in the starting line-up, Andriy Boryachuk and Andriy Korobenko came on as substitutes. Soon after his appearance on the pitch, the U21 league’s top scorer notched up a goal! Notably, Boryachuk was assisted by Viktor Kovalenko, who has fired it home a minute later. 5-0 - a convincing away win of Shakhtar.
