Mircea Lucescu: We could’ve played some higher-profile games

Press conference by Shakhtar head coach after defeating Ternopil.

- After the first match, which we won 5-0, no one doubted that everything was over and done with. Today the guys showed it on the football field. We were talking before the game about the absence of pressure there – they just needed to go out and produce some good, spectacular football. Probably, the fans and the audience enjoyed that kind of game. The match involved the players who had had less match practice, a s well as those who appeared after suffering an injury, in particular Taison. Plus the youth playing in the UEFA Youth League. They also need such matches to adapt to the type of our game and meet with older players on the pitch. Matviienko, Korobenko, Boryachuk, Arabidze and Kovalenko - all of them played well enough! I want to repeat this: perhaps at this level the Cup does not require a two-legged tie. Given the scoreline of the first meeting, today's game would decide nothing. I believe these dates could've been used for some different purposes. And for some higher-profile games.
