The previous match between the teams was also held in Zaporizhya.  Zorya quickly took the lead: on 2 minutes, the ball after Vernydub’s effort hit Kryvtsov, the referee awarded a penalty kick, with Lubenovic converting it to make the score 1-0. After that, Shakhtar had territorial and competitive advantage, and before the half-time whistle, Donetsk restored parity: Kryvtsov headed home Srna’s pass.

In the second half, the Orange-Blacks cracked Zorya defence three more times. On 68 minutes, Teixeira took advantage of a series of ricochets and sent the ball home. Adriano then converted a spot kick awarded for a foul by Tchaikovskyi on Srna. And in the end of the game, the captain of Shakhtar intercepted the ball and sent it to Teixeira, who took advantage of his speed and grabbed a brace to make it 4-1 for Shakhtar.

Interesting fact

- Darijo Srna may well make his 300th appearance for Shakhtar as a captain.
