Introducing opponents: Atalanta (Italy)
On September 5, as part of the Italian mini training camp, Shakhtar will face with Atalanta. Let’s get acquainted with the opponents.
The Italian Serie A club represent the city of Bergamo, population of which is about 119,000 people. Atalanta were founded 108 years ago and was named after the heroine of Greek mythology, which is reflected in the logo of the team. Atalanta have not celebrated high-profile triumphs besides the Italian Cup.
Atalanta play home matches holds at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia stadium, which holds 25,000 seats. This venue is also used by Albinoleffe.
Head coach of Atalanta is 69-year-old Edoardo Reja. He has worked with many Italian clubs, and in recent years he has been at the helm of Lazio. Reja took over at the Bergamo team from during a poor run in 2014-15 season, eventually helping the team to stay up in Serie A.
Atalanta started a new league campaign with a defeat in the away match against Inter, but in the next round, they claimed their first three points, beating Frosinone 2-0 at home. One of the goals was scored by ex-player of Metalist Kharkiv Alejandro Gomez.
Among the leaders of the Atalanta, one may note defender Guglielmo Stendardo, experienced midfielder Maxi Moralez, who is in his fifth season with the team, Chile striker Mauricio Pinilla and Argentine striker Germán Denis.
