Shakhtar’s internationals: goalless draw with Slovakia

On 8 September, the Ukraine national team played their Euro 2016 qualifier on Matchday 8.

Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine

Ukraine: Pyatov, Fedetskyy, Khacheridi, Rakytskyy, Shevchuk, Stepanenko, Rybalka, Yarmolenko, Rotan, Konoplyanka, Kravets (Gladkyy, 90+1)

In the key game with Slovakia, the following Shakhtar players were fielded in the starting line-up: Andriy Pyatov, Yaroslav Rakytskyy, Vyacheslav Shevchuk and Taras Stepanenko. It should also be noted that Oleksandr Gladkyy took to the pitch in the stoppage time.

The first half proved to be very nervous, although there were not many chances. Konoplyanka fired the ball wide of the target, with the only shot on target coming from the hosts. On 17 minutes, Hamsik took an excellent shot from outside the penalty area but Pyatov made a fine save.

Andriy also saved a long range effort from Kutski in the debut of the second half. Overall, the game remained evenly matched: teams did not allow each other to combine, playing confidently in defence. Five minutes from time, Ukraine won a free kick, which was taken by Rakytskyy – Kozacik made a save.

The game ended 0-0. Slovakia still have three points more than the Ukraine national team, who are sitting third in the Group C.
