The memorable game of wasted opportunities started with Shakhtar taking control of proceedings. However, the Pitmen failed to convert one of their chances. Pogorelyi parried away shots from Adriano and Costa, and on 16 minutes Luiz could have again scored after a pass from Taison – Metalist’s goalkeeper again made a save. Following the famous football rule, the Kharkiv side soon scored: Kayado advanced with a ball before feeding Dovgyi, who fired a powerful effort to make it 1-0.

The Pitmen had other chances before the break too: Ischenko cleared the ball off the goal line following a shot from Ilsinho, late on Adriano saw his overhead kick fly just wide of the goal post. The goal came in the stoppage time of the first half, when energetic Ilsinho was brought down by Ryzhyk when trying to hit the ball, with Srna confidently converting a penalty kick.

Midway through the second half Costa saw his shot hit the crossbar. It was getting harder and harder for Metalist to defend, and on 73 minutes Shakhtar took the lead: Taison fed Gladkyy, Oleksandr skipped past the opponent and crossed to Adriano, who fired the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 1-2! But already in the added time Metalist shocked the Pitmen, converting a free kick: Bobko delivered a cross for Priyomov to head the ball in. As a result, the game finished 2-2.
