Before match

In the game against Spanish club, Shakhtar U19 head coach Serhiy Kovalyov fielded those who already have experience of playing in the UEFA Youth League. The senior team defender Mykola Matvienko was captaining the squad, with Oleksandr Pykhalyonok and Oleksandr Zubkov also taking to the pitch in the starting eleven, as well as the current top scorer of the youth championship Andriy Boryachuk.

First half

The Pitmen started the game confidently, with creating a chance in the opening stages of the game: Zubkov fired a shot, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Luka Zidane (younger son of the start of world football) played confidently. Real Madrid players controlled possession, quickly passed the centre of the pitch, trying to find the keys for the Pitmen’s defence. Shakhtar were playing well on the breaks. There were few chances. The scoring was opened in the 28th minute after a corner kick, when Khakimi slotted home a cross from close range. After four minutes, Real Madrid scored again: Sedras played a one-two with his team-mate, before firing the shot into the corner of the net from outside the penalty area to make it 2-0. The Pitmen managed to impose their football in the end of the first half. Boryachuk skipped past a number of opponents before taking a shot straight into the hands of Zidane. Soon Zubkov moved in on goal from the right to shoot towards the near corner – the opposition defender blocked the shot.

Second half

After the break, the tempo of the game became a bit slower. Real Madrid continued attacking, the Pitmen tried to look for their chances on the counterattacks. On 59 minutes, the Pitmen’s loss of the ball led to the third goal: Febas fired in from the edge of the penalty box to make it 3-0. Shakhtar’s goalkeeper Vladislav Trescheyko made a number of saves, but on 66 minutes he was forced to leave the pitch due to injury, with Mykyta Romanov coming on.  In the remaining time the Pitmen orchestrated a number of good attacking moves. On 83 minutes Shakhtar conceded another goal. After a shot from a free kick, the ball hit the crossbar before Salto seized on the rebound to make it 4-0. Boryachuk had a chance to score a consolation goal, but the forward failed to shoot from close range.

Shakhtar U19 will play their next game of the UEFA Youth League group stage on 30 September against their peers from PSG.
