Shakhtar got off to a pretty confident start in the Cup competition, beating Arsenal-Kyiv through the goals by Maksym Malyshev, Eduardo and Sergiy Gryn. In the previous league round, the Orange-Blacks beat Dniprodzerzhynsk-based Stal, claiming the important three points. The last 16 stage includes a two-legged tie, so the team of Mircea Lucescu have to produce a positive result away.
The Pitmen’s opponents approach the match with high morale after beating Hornyak-Sport in the current First League round. Undoubtedly, in the presence of Ternopil fans, they will be very motivated and try to fight Shakhtar back.
In the Round of 32, Ternopil beat Zaporizhya-based Metalurh. The charges of Vasyl Ivehesh played a top-flight side at home and scored an early goal. At the end of the first half, the score got level, but after the break the accurate shots by Kurylo and Bohdanov within five minutes decided the meeting outcome. By the way, Ternopil started their Cup performance with a preliminary stage, where they scored the same number of goals, claiming a 3-1 win at Nikopol-NPGU.
