U21. Olimpik vs Shakhtar: match preview

The Olimpik reserve team play their home matches in Bila Tserkva, in the stadium with artificial surface. Having started the season with two defeats in six games, Olimpik claimed five wins and had one draw in the following six games. Currently, the team share the third spot in the table with Dynamo after scoring 16 points. In the last round, Shakhtar U21 lost their first points in the league after drawing with Stal (1-1). Miguel Cardoso’s team have 22 points, being four points ahead of their nearest pursuers and past season’s champions Dnipro. Therefore, the match between Olimpik U21 and Shakhtar U21 is very important in terms of the spot distribution at the top of table.

Facundo Ferreyra and Mykhailo Shyshka, who were suspended in the game vs Stal, will not play against Olimpik. On Wednesday, in the cup match against Ternopil (5-0), three players of Shakhtar U21 team made their first-team debut. Oleksandr Zubkov played for 90 minutes, with Andriy Boryachuk and Andriy Korobenko coming on as subs in the second half. Boryachuk immediately got himself on the scoresheet in Ternopil, continuing to confidently lead the U21 league scorers list, having notched up 10 goals in eight appearances.


Olimpik reserve team’s last season performance brought them to the first from bottom 14th spot after suffering 20 defeats in 26 games, so the team’s new season progress is obvious. A year ago, in Bila Tserkva, the Pitmen managed to make it level only in the end of the meeting after converting a spot kick (1-1). In the second round match, at the training centre Poltava, the charges of Miguel Cardoso claimed a 2-0 win, opening the scoring just after the break and scoring their second goal in injury time.
