Olimpik vs Shakhtar: players’ view
After the victory in the Donetsk derby, the Pitmen have shared their views about the game.
Alex Teixeira, Shakhtar’s midfielder:
- I was far away from the episode when Ivan Ordets was sent off; I cannot say whether it is deserved or not. But, even when down to ten men, we were constantly creating pressure - we simply had no right to lose! Soon, we will play a match with Dynamo, after which we have to catch up with them on points or even climb to the top spot in the standings. Today we saw two difficult halves; scorching sun, too, has had an effect. Even after the replacement of Gladkyy, it was not easy; it is a little difficult for me to play as a striker. I'm not very tall, and I must be constantly in contact with opponents - to create space for our place for our players. But, thank God, today we have won. I am glad that I sealed a brace, but the second goal was a bit spontaneous. I want to score as many goals as possible and help the team win!
Oleksandr Kucher, Shakhtar’s defender:
- It was not difficult to get into the game - before the match even those players who are on the subs’ bench are actively warming up. Today, no one wanted to lose! And whatever was said on the eve of the meeting, the spirit of the derby on the field was present. It was still a Donetsk derby: with an abundance of challenges, individual battles, emotions, infringement of rules. It’s normal for such games! No one was saving energy for PSG clash: we played being reduced to ten men, and tried to give our all - it was very difficult, plus the heat... Yes, you can imagine how difficult it is – to carve open the defence being reduced to ten men. With this game, which Olimpik show today, the boys are undeservedly sitting in the 12th place in the league. They are very good, organised team, which twice took the lead in the game with Shakhtar and it says something.
