Shakhtar in America: football and Athletes’ Village

The first day of the US training camp passed for Shakhtar under the sign of new experiences and physical activities. The players gradually get accustomed to the different time zone, familiarizing themselves with the local life and getting involved in the training process.

Let us remind you that the Pitmen arrived at the IMG Academy training centre after midnight on January 12 (in Kyiv, it was already 8 am at the time). Therefore, Mircea Lucescu gave players the possibility to have rest after travelling for a day and a half. However, the rest break was short, because the second half of Tuesday was full of training activities, both theoretical and physical ones.

First of all, the head coach of Shakhtar held a general team meeting.

- We must prepare for the second part of the season as well as possible. We are facing a serious and responsible period. We must make every effort to remain the leaders of the Ukrainian league and win it! Gold medals will allow us to directly qualify for the Champions League group stage. At the same time, it is important to advance as much as possible in the Europa League, showing some good, quality performance. Therefore, we have a lot of work ahead. At the training camp we have 30 players – I expect dedication from everyone, patience and willpower. We have many young players with us - they need to gain experience, reach the level of the first team. I want to draw you attention to the following fact: you are in the unique sports centre, which hosts the world's best teams, the best athletes, and not just footballers. It's kind of the Olympic Village. Shakhtar will participate in the Florida Cup, where we need to show ourselves well. This is important not only in terms of preparation for the spring part of the season, but also our club image wise, - said Mircea Lucescu.

After the meeting, the team left for their first training session as part of the US training camp. By tradition, it was introductory in nature: running work alternated with agility and ball control exercises. Taras Stepanenko and Serhiy Kryvtsov exercised based on individual programme.
