Introducing opponents: Corinthians
On the night of January 21, Shakhtar will play their second Florida Cup match. The Orange-Blacks’ rivals are the Brazilian Corinthians.
The former home club of Willian and Dentinho was founded in 1910 and is nicknamed Timao. In the Brazilian Serie A, Corinthians are one of the teams representing the state of Sao Paulo.
Today, Corinthians are six-time domestic title holders and three-time Cup winners. In the past, such masters as Socrates, Rivelino, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and Tevez used to wear the Timao shirt.
In November 2015, Corinthians prematurely, three rounds before the season end, became the champions of Brazil. They finished 12 points ahead of Atletico Mineiro.
The best assister of the team and the entire league was Shakhtar’s legendary former midfielder and audience’s favourite Jadson. He also scored many goals for the club – 13 (only Vagner Love netted more goals for Corinthians – 14). However, both of them have left the club this winter.
The head coach of the Timao is Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, known as Tite. Back in 2011, he had led the team of Sao Paulo to the league victory, having repeated the success just recently. Plus in 2012, Tite won the Copa Libertadores with the Corinthians along with the Club World Cup title.
