On 21 January, the Pitmen played their second match in the Florida Cup – against the Brazilian side Corinthians.

In the second and final game in the international tournament Florida Cup, Shakhtar faced Corinthians – the champions of Brazil. Mircea Lucescu fielded a traditional squad for this match. It should be noted that Dentinho, for whom Corinthians are a home team, was named in the starting eleven. Wellington Nem also started the game.
The Pitmen started the match energetically, forcing the opponents to play without the ball. As early as on 4 minutes, Taison fired a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area – over the crossbar. Corinthians responded with sharp counterattacks. On 12 minutes, the nominal hosts capitalized on the Pitmen’s error. Pyatov made a sloppy pass towards Kucher – the opponents intercepted the ball, and Danilo sent it into empty net. Midway through the half, Corinthians took control of the game. On 21 minutes Romero took a headed shot following a pass from Elias, but Shakhtar’s goalkeeper parried away his shot. It was the Pitmen who had to play on the counterattacks. Such a game brought fruit quickly. Stepanenko cleared the ball away from a penalty area, Nem played the ball into the path of Taison, who skipped past his markers to fire the ball past the goalkeeper. The closing stages of the first half saw a very intensive game. On 36 minutes, Malcom took control of the ball on the right flank before making a pass into the centre for Romero to pick up the ball to plant it into the right corner of the net. Shakhtar combined well in the opposition half of the pitch, but the hosts played confidently in defence. A minute before the half time whistle, Corinthians took a corner: inside the penalty area Romero beat his marker to make it 1-3.
The second half of the game saw a more medium tempo, the game was mainly played in the centre of the pitch The first really dangerous chance occurred on 61 minutes. Malcolm darted into the penalty area before taking a powerful effort into the bottom corner, but Pyatov made a save. After three minutes, Stepanenko tried to narrow the gap but his shot from twenty metres flew wide. The Pitmen’s game became more energetic after Gladkyy and Kovalenko came on for Ferreyra and Nem respectively, but Corinthians kept playing confidently in defense.
On 76 minutes, Marlos had a chance. Shakhtar’s No 11 saw his shot fly just wide of the goal post. After four minutes, Srna made a penetrating pass into the penalty area for Kovalenko to fire the ball in to make it 2-3. On 82 minutes, the Pitmen were reduced to ten men – Kucher was awarded red card. However, Mircea Lucescu’s charges continued attacking, closing down the opponents more and more. Soon, Stepaneko had a chance to level, but Taras sent the ball just wide from the edge of the penalty area. Dentinho had a similar chance but his effort also flew just wide of the target. Ismaily’s decent shot was saved by Cassio. In the final attack, Andriy Pyatov run forward during a corner, Rakytskyy could have equalized, but the opposition goalkeeper played confidently – 2-3.
