Shakhtar on international duty: Croatia beat Israel
On March 23 in Osijek, Croatia national team played a friendly against Israel.
Croatia 2-0 Israel
Goals: 1-0 Perisic (4’), 2-0 Brozovic (34’)
Croatia: Subasic (L. Kalinic, 46’), Vida, Corluka (Schildenfeld, 46’), Lovren, Srna (Vrsaljko, 44’), Badelj (Halilovic, 52’), Modric (Antolic, 68’), Brozovic, Perisic, N. Kalinic (Kovacic, 57’), Mandzukic
Shakhtar defender Darijo Srna led the Croatians onto the pitch with the captain's armband on. As early as the 3rd minute, the visitors had a good chance to open the scoring, only to see the ball rebound off the goalpost and put Subasic off danger. In turn, the Blazers capitalised on their chance as result of a counterattacking move, with Perisic picking up a floated pass from Brozovic and driving a volley into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
It should be noted that Croatia national team deployed a 3-5-2 formation. Srna operated as a right winger, regularly joining attacking moves and helping his teammates in the defensive third when necessary. Midway through the first half, it was Darijo who prevented Dabburu from hammering it into the back of the net. A minute later, he came near netting the second one for the Croats, with his powerful smasher going just inches wide.
Shortly afterwards, Brozovic extended the lead to make it 2-0. Unfortunately though, the first half ended with trouble: Srna got a foot injury after colliding with an opponent, and was replaced. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle. The hosts claimed a confident friendly win.
