Mircea Lucescu: Importantly, we’ve played this match right now

Press conference of Shakhtar head coach after the cup game against Vorskla.

- It is important that we have advanced further in the Cup. Just as important is the fact that we have played this match right now. Two weeks without match practise for those who do not play for the national teams would have been too much. It’s good that we met with a very motivated team. Vorskla wanted to prove themselves after two defeats at Shakhtar. It turned out a good attacking game, with the players cleating many chances. And if in the first leg we managed to score four goals, this time, out of seven or eight chances we created, unfortunately, we haven’t converted them all. This is football! I am dissatisfied with slackness of the two central defenders. In the episode with the second goal we played carelessly, and in the first case we earned quite unnecessary free kick. Plus Sarnavskyi’s lack of attention. Vorskla well defended during the two halves, but caused numerous fouls. It is important that we have finished the match without anyone injured and that everyone can train on. I do not think that in the game, which decided next to nothing, it was necessary to make so many fouls and play so tough. As for Malyshev: we agreed with Mykhailo Fomenko that it would be better for him to play today. He is a young footballer. Especially in the view of the fact that we are playing Braga soon. Maksym was involved in the national team’s first leg. Maybe tomorrow, other defensive midfielders will take the pitch. Basically, we’ve had nobody else to use in the holding midfielder’s role instead of him.

- Are you happy with Dentinho’s performance in the holding midfielder’s role?
- In general, yes. I'm happy with the way he played. Of course, he needs more match practice for this position, to better understand the defensive mechanisms, which, unfortunately, he doesn’t always succeed at. Dentinho likes to attack, but, I think, today he’s played well enough.
