The Shakhtar defender gave an interview to shakhtar.com ahead of the match vs Olimpik
- Sergii, in what mood is the team preparing for the 30th round?
- Mission accomplished. With everyone being really happy that we have finally won the championship and gave our fans the Ukrainian Cup on Wednesday. During the season, we worked hard for this goal, and the two trophies are our best reward.
- How can you tune to the remaining meetings?
- We have three fixtures, which we need to win. We don’t think about anything else. Fans will come to the stadium, they will expect us to win and deliver some spectacular performance, so we will try to please them. Yes, we’ve become the champions early, but formally the tournament is not over yet. We are serious about the upcoming matches.
- Viktor Kovalenko said in an interview that Shakhtar are going to break the record of the Ukrainian championships – being eighteen points clear of the second spot ...
- Right, I read it. Currently we enjoy a seventeen-point gap. However, to be honest, I don’t think about that. If this happens, we'll sit down at the end of the season, look at the statistics and discuss it. It’s important to win the league in general – no matter if it’s a one point gap or a seventeen one. The main thing is that we sit in the top spot.
- This season, Olimpik took points from Shakhtar twice, beating Dynamo in the 29th round.
- They are balanced team with qualified players. Olimpik showcase great counterattacking performance, they quickly launch those all-out attacks. I am sure we’re facing a tough encounter. Especially as they continue to compete for participation in the European competitions, with our opponents even challenging the third place.
- Olimpik surely hope that the Pitmen have fulfilled their objective for the season and don’t have any competitive motivation?
- Perhaps, the opponents rely on that. But even looking at today's training, we can see that absolutely none of the guys are thinking about vacation. Everyone is working hard, and we will appear for the match against Olimpik with a very serious attitude.
