Shakhtar U21 head coach Valeriy Kryventsov revealed, thanks to what they managed to beat Dynamo
- Firstly, I want to congratulate the entire team. Every football player, regardless of whether he started or was on the sideline, was ready to play his heart out 100 per cent on the pitch. I saw it in the guys’ eyes in the morning, when we were leaving for the match, and my intuition did not let me down. The win was important both in terms of competition, as a group of rivals approached us, and in terms of psychology, to restore the necessary emotional climate in the team. The first half turned out to be more or less evenly contested, the initiative alternately switched from one side to another. We should have properly rearranged our lines and work without the ball, in which we have succeeded today. In the second half, the players demonstrated excellent physical conditions and created a large number of threatening moments: apart from two strikes, we could have netted five more goals.
- Was sending off at the opposing side the key point of the meeting?
- This red card was the result of our correct operation, when the rivals waivered, lost their nerves, and when they failed to keep pace with us. Therefore their sending off came. I'm sure, even if we played with a 11-men squad, we would still have ran out victors. Although it would have been much harder.
- This is the Miners’ third win over Dynamo in a row. Have you studied the rivals so well?
- At the training sessions, we modelled the way Dynamo operate; the guys learnt every single manoeuvre of theirs. However, modelling is not enough, as it is necessary to implement everything on the pitch. And we made it. There came good spells when we lined up with the correct formation and enjoyed the ball possession. The only thing is that we hardly ever had enough switch play, because there were open players on the flanks, and we fell behind with playing passes into those spaces. Therefore, we could achieve greater variability offensively. In general, I am completely satisfied: the team looked good both with and without the ball in all stages. The win should give us a positive momentum and add self-confidence. The guys were aware of this and have done work first-rate, on which I congratulated them affectively in the dressing room.
