Shakhtar received Vorskla In the U21 League round 28
Unlike the previous match vs Dynamo, there were no first-team players in Shakhtar’s squad, but the goalkeeper Yevhen Grytsenko, the defender Danylo Sahutkin and the centre-half Volodymyr Yakymets returning to the starting line-up. At the same time, Valerii Bondar again took the position of the defensive midfielder, feeling himself increasingly more confident in that role with every match.
Opponents under pressure
The first half saw a huge advantage of Shakhtar, who exerted much pressure in the opposing half from the off and did not allow the Poltava team to cross the halfway line. The Donetsk team dominated possession, still failing to rip open the visitors’ tight defence, with the long balls to the wingers not always reaching the target. Before the break, they just produced a dangerous shot from a tight angle and a Sahutkin header following Topalov’s delivery from the wing, with the Vorskla goalkeeper coming to his team’s rescue on both occasions.
Focus on flanks
That kind of performance did not satisfy Shakhtar's coaching staff, and in the secondhalf the team shifted the attacking focus to the wings, counting on the pace of the outside forwards Topalov and Kaschuk, as well as on the threatening link-up play of the laterals Korniienko and Hrachev . Purposefully giving the ball away to the opponents, the Orange-Blacks orchestrated a blistering attacking move in the 57th minute: initially, Oleksandr Hlahola burst into the penalty area, made it past a defender and masterfully beat the goalkeeper – 1-0.Immediately after that, the hosts might have scored one following a corner, but two opponents at once rushed to stop a Yakymets attempt. In those minutes, the Donetsk team easily launched some quick counterattacks, with one of them resulting in the second goal scored: the same Hlahola burst into the penalty area from the left-hand side and crossed the ball to the goal line, with the onrushing Oleksii Kaschuk hammering the ball into the roof of the net – 2-0. Artem Dudik must have given the score a more lopsided look. First, Sahutkin and Kaschuk brought him one on one with Kanevtsev, but the cross whizzed just inches off the far post. Another chance for the attacker was created by Dmytro Topalov: he raced down the left wing and delivered the ball to the far corner, but Dudik failed to finish it off while challenging a defender. However, two goals were enough for a confident victory.
2-0 – Shakhtar defeated Vorskla, keeping clean sheets in three consecutive games.
The Miners will have an away game vs Mariupol at 14:00 on April 26.
