In the U21 league round 5, Shakhtar will play Lviv away

August 17, Rava-Ruska, Lokomotyv, 17:00

Before the match

At the beginning of the season, the coaching staff continue to search for the optimum combinations in the thirds and try to match up the players who underwent the pre-season training with the team, the internationals who missed almost the entire preparation period, and the club’s newcomers. At the same time, with every game, they are shaping up the line-up that can be considered the major one (at least at the start), with the leaders already proving themselves. Defensively, the captain Valerii Bondar along with the fullbacks Yukhym Konoplia and Viktor Korniienko are virtually irreplaceable. In midfield, the experienced Oleksandr Hlahola looks great, with the offensive standards being set by Dmytro Topalov, Mykhailo Mudryk and Illia Vasylevych.

Opponents

FC Lviv have been represented in the U21 Ukrainian league for the second time in its history. The Galicians had their first U21 league experience back in the 2008/09 season, claiming the 13th spot out of 16. In the current championship, the Citizens have already collected the whole range of results: a draw vs Arsenal-Kyiv (0-0), a home defeat to Dynamo (1-2), a victory over Vorskla (3-0) and an unexpectedly major fiasco vs Olimpik (1-6). As a result, Roman Gdanskyi’s boys have 4 points (goal difference of 5-8) and the 9th spot in the table. We want to note that when at home, the Lviv team often get a solid reinforcement from the senior team: in the game vs the Poltava side, as many as four Brazilian newcomers played at once. But the most prolific football player so far is the Lviv academy graduate Ostap Mischuk after netting 2 goals.

Head-to-head record

In the U21 premiership, the opponents met in the 2008/09 season. Back then, Shakhtar proved stronger in Lviv (3-1), being tied in Donetsk (1-1).
