On December 1, Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca and football players Sergii Kryvtsov, Taras Stepanenko and Junior Moraes visited Kharkiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1

The club has been supporting the medical institution since 2014. This is the Miners’ fifth visit now. Last time, Paulo Fonseca and the players came to visit the little in-patients and the hospital staff exactly a year ago.

Important gift

The visitors did not arrive empty-handed. Shakhtar donated to the KRCCH No. 1 German equipment worth UAH 275,000: a set of oesophageal bougies for research, widening and treatment of cicatricial stenosis of the oesophagus, along with a neonatal cystoscope for diagnosing and treating diseases of the urinary system in children from the first days of life.

The funds received from selling tickets for the Shakhtar vs Dynamo match form part of the amount spent on the equipment.

Fonseca's personalised step

Traditionally, the chief doctor Oksana Piontkovskaya held a tour for the Orange-and-Blacks. An interesting fact: the staircase steps bear the names of the children to have undergone treatment and already been discharged from the hospital. One of the surprises for the head coach was his personalised step. And in the events hall, 80 kids ... wearing Zorro masks met the footballers!

Paulo Fonseca, Shakhtar manager:

- It’s my third-year visit here, with this kind of reception being a great honour for me. I am very touched by my name on the step, by the photo of me and the child, by the masks. This moment will forever stay in my heart. Thank you so much for this emotional experience! Here they do the best job one might do, they take care of children’s health.

After watching a short film about the hospital, Fonseca, Moraes, Stepanenko and Kryvtsov handed gifts to the children and invited them to the Shakhtar – Lyon Champions League game.

Regular support

Even today, we can talk about some results. With the appearance of the Solar spectrophotometer, the hospital experts have performed over 4,000 biochemical blood tests, and the Coblator II cold-plasma unit allowed to carry out 170 operations. The club also gave beds and a medication set to the hospital.

Aggregately, Shakhtar’s charitable contribution over 5 years has amounted to about UAH 1.15 million. Over 15 thousand children received qualified assistance thanks to the donated equipment.
